I believe it is described in the documentation. Did you read it? Follow it? What difficulties did you have when trying to connect?

Since I am new here, are we talking about Oracle's SQL developer or PL/SQL developer?

As the OP didn't mention PL/SQL developer, I suppose it is Oracle's SQL developer.

and add tns into tnsname.ora into /$ORACLE_HOME/admin directory

I don't think so.
I think it is rather: in "Connections" left panel, how to add a new one, don't you think?

Michel

Just click on new in left side panel

Then enter :

Username
Password
hostname
sid

Then New connection will be connected.

If not connecting then try to connect with sqlplus like:

 /home/sqlplus
 Enter username : tmp@tnsname
 Enter Password : tmp

if not connected then check tnsnames.ora in $ORACLE_HOME/admin and then check tnsname i.e. correct or not.

If not then it can be other issue that you can discuss in orafaq.

In fairness I think that he's assuming there's a problem with actually making the connection/TNS listing rather than how to get to the right GUI page...

After all, how can someone seriously miss the big green plus sign complete with tooltip saying 'New connection...' or indeed right clicking the connections part and selecting 'New connection...' all held in the connections window Wink

You cannot imagine what I saw...
I once saw someone telling me there is no space key on his keyboard and was surprised when I pointed him to the space bar (too large to be seen). Wink
