Were you able to resolve the REP 1849 error? I'm getting the same thing and don't have a clue as to how to resolve.

There seems to be an issue with Oracle Reports 6, Windows 2000 and HP Printers. I have the same problem. I'm investigating at the moment

I have had the same error since installing a new HP 8150DN. I found that installing the HP 8100 PS driver I was able to print reports. My suggestion would be to try the post Script driver for the specific printer you are using and if that doesn't work go to previouse versions until you find one that does. Also I didn't have this problem on our 8150N.

i found, that there's no rep-1849 with printer drivers from Microsoft, which are included in the Windows2000 distributive. but with hp drivers - only rep-1849 and nothing can help it...

(sorry for my english...)
i succeded in this war against "REP-1849: Failed while printing" error!

configuration: windows 2000 advanced server service pack 3, oracle developer 6i (reports 6.0.8.11.3), HP laserjet 2200DN installed locally on machine's LPT1.

with Windows 2000 PCL6 driver from "HP LJ2200 PCL6 Point&Print bundle" printing from reports runtime didn't work, i got rep-1849.
i tried to change driver to PCL5e - still got error. changing printer settings didn't help.
then i tried Postscript driver for Windows 2000 from HP - and it works, but does not let using "print on both sides".
so, then i tried to install PCL6 driver for Windows NT4 - and it works the best it can! error has gone! :)
when installing driver, select "Windows NT4 and 2000" and fix the path to driver's files when windows asks it.

still, the other way is to use Microsoft's HP Laserjet 2100 driver included in windows 2000. it works good, but some 2200-specific settings unavailable.

YOU CAN INSTALL DEVELOPER 6I "PATCH 14" AND YOU CAN PRINT AS EASY AS YOU THINK AND WITHOUT RE CONFIGUAR YOUR PRINTER AGAIN AND AGAIN.

If the printer is a network one, check on printers and faxes if the printer is connected.
If there is a message that could not connect to the printer this can cause the REP-1849 error.

Try for example to print a test page something else, like a word of pdf document on the printer.
